FareShare

The Edge Café are delighted to be working with FareShare. As part of their mission to cut down on food waste and to combat hunger, FareShare redistribute good food destined for waste to charities and community groups who turn it into nutritional meals for vulnerable people.

The fresh, quality food is delivered to The Edge Café on a Friday, and we use as much of it as we can to populate our excellent specials menu. How much and what food varies week-to-week, so our specials are always changing depending on what we receive. Anything that we do not use in the kitchen is free for customers or visitors to take.

For more info about what FareShare do nationwide, you can get some details and statistics from their website or from the infographic here.

Room Hire

The Edge Café also offers a meeting room for commercial, community and charity hire at reasonable rates.

The Hayman Room offers facilities that include broadband access, AV equipment and SMART board.

A catering service is available for people using the meeting room.

A few years ago, funding was awarded to build a recovery hub in Cambridge, a working café open to the public but with a recovery-based focus. The café forms a visible, public-facing demonstration of the possibility of recovery from substance misuse, generating opportunities both for people in recovery, and for the wider community.

Situated on the site of Brookfields Hospital, on our walls you'll find a different artist in residence each month, and throughout the week we provide a wide programme of workshops and music, spoken word and interactive events that are open to all.

Our Menu

In addition to our award-winning coffee, The Edge Café offer a wide range of homemade cakes, freshly prepared meals and drinks.

Our specials change daily, and we are proud to partner with FareShare to combat food waste and hunger in the UK. Food that would otherwise be wasted by supermarkets gets turned into delicious meals, and everything that we don't use is free for customers to take home.

Families & Carers

It can be a terrible shock to find out that someone in your family is misusing drugs or alcohol whether they are a child, brother or sister, or your partner. You may feel that there is nowhere to turn and you may be worried about all sorts of consequences, from dealing with the law to worrying about how other people will react. Serious drug or alcohol problems in the family can create incredible tension and distress but it’s important to remember that family communication and support can make a real difference. Although you may feel alone, rest assured you’re not: there are many other people experiencing the same things as you. You have a vital role to play and there are people out there who can help.

Inclusion offers a support service for the families of adults who misuse drugs or alcohol. They are able to provide a safe and confidential place to talk, offer information and coping strategies, and signpost to other relevant services. Exhibition Calendar

Calling All Creatives!

The Edge Café is Cambridge’s new recovery hub; a community café with a recovery heart. We are a social enterprise providing opportunities and peer support to people in recovery from substance misuse. We are open to the public and to the community, playing host to live events, workshops, exhibitions and damn good coffee.

At the moment it is a blank canvas, which is where YOU come in. We are looking for artists who wish to exhibit their work in a vibrant café environment. Each exhibiting artist adorns the walls for one month, with their work playing a large part in how customers experience the café and the project’s overall aesthetic. It’s important stuff, and we need beautiful things and beautiful people to make it happen.

Across the month of exhibition, we invite the exhibiting artist to curate an element of the café’s what’s on programme in collaboration with The Edge. This can be a workshop, talk or live event that relates to the themes of your work – we’re open to ideas! The most important thing is that it’s open to all, and adds value to The Edge as a hub for the community. We’d also fully support you to host a private view to launch the exhibition.

To apply, please send a short paragraph about yourself, what medium you work in, examples of your work (attach or link), and a short paragraph about what the word “recovery” means to you.

To submit, please drop us an email at art@theedgecafecambridge.org

Support Us

The journey of developing a ‘Recovery Hub’ for Cambridgeshire started as a vision over 2 years ago.  We saw that there was a something missing, people who were leaving specialist treatment services didn't have a place to go that they could call their own, to support them to sustain long term recovery and prevent relapse. It's been a very long journey, but now this vision is finally coming to life.

The cafe has been very lucky to date and has already been offered countless hours of support and donations from organisations and individuals, and funders. We'd like to take this opportunity to say thank you.

If you would like to support us in making the Cambridge Recovery Hub happen, you can do so by donating or by offering practical help. Do you work with an organisation you feel we'd work well with too? Do you have a specific skill that you wish to put to work for a good cause? Are you in recovery yourself and wish to get involved? We'd love to hear from you!

About Edgewords

Edgewords started life in a writing workshop run by Oblique Arts and held at The Edge Café under the direction of Jean Dark. It is being continued as an annual publication – edited by Jean Dark, Lisa Evans and Munizha Ahmad-Cooke – to raise funds for The Edge Café’s work, supporting people in recovery from addiction.
